Karachi Friendship Football Tournament begins with a high scoring draw

The All-Karachi Friendship Day & Night Football Tournament began with an exciting 3-3 draw between Group-A teams National Afridi (Baldia) and FC Rovers (Malir) at Golden Star Ground in New Karachi. National Afridi’s Qamar Ali Shah scored twice and Hussain scored once while Radus Salam also scored twice for FC Rovers alongside Waqar Hussain’s one goal as well.

Member of Central Zone, Lala Orangzeb, inaugurated the tournament as Chief Guest for this game. Also present were Syed Liaquat Shah (Senior Vice Chairman, West Zone), Khalid Majeed (Secretary Referees, Central Zone), Muhammad Nizam (Joint Secretary, Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association), Ghous Sharif (National referee from Hyderabad), Riaz Ahmed (veteran football journalist) alongside others.

The game began in style as both teams showed good attacking prowess from the first whistle. However in 12th minute, Qamar Ali Shah put National Afridi 1-0 up thanks to a good right wing cross from team-mate Asghar. At half time score remained 1-0. However in 2nd half, FC Rovers played fast free-flowing game as they put National Afridi’s defence to the test. In 41st minute, a cross from FC Rovers left winger Irfan Junejo found striker Radus Salam who made it 1-1.

Radus Salam again scored in 48th minute to make it 2-1 in favour of FC Rovers. However in 51st minute Qamar Ali Shah scored his second of the game to make it 2-2, but merely two minutes later Waqar Hussain made it 3-2 for FC Rovers. In closing stages of the game, National Afridi’s Hussain capitalised on a mistake by Rovers goalkeeper Raheel Khan to draw the game an astonishing 3-3 as the game finished with both sides sharing the spoils.

Match referee was Adnan Khan alongside assistants Muhammad Ashraf and Farrukh Riaz while 4th official was Saad Kazmi, referee inspector Chaudhry Israr while match commissioner was Abdul Karim (Member, Central Zone).
