‘The News’ mistakes FPDC April Fools Prank as real

From our editors:

Yesterday, 1st April 2013, the FPDC staff decided to prank its followers via its official Facebook and Twitter pages in tradition of the April Fools Day.

FPDC claimed that Pakistan had been invited to face England in an international football friendly on 14 August 2013 on occasion of Pakistan’s up-coming 66th Independence Day.

Some people thought this claim was real, but most realised the occasion and had a good laugh about the prank.

However, a major Pakistani daily ‘The News’ took the matter rather seriously and the next day published our April Fools Day prank in the newspaper.

Pakistan to play against England on August 14?

KARACHI: England has invited Pakistan football team for a friendly match which the Greenshirts will play against the English national team on August 14, a website claimed on Monday.

However, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) did not confirm it, saying, they had received no such invitation. The fact that the revelation has come on April Fools Day makes it a bit suspicious.

“We have not received any such invitation and nor any such thing was in pipeline,” the PFF Director Development and Competitions Pervez Saeed Mir told ‘The News’ on Monday.

However, Mir was quick to add that India was planning to go there this summer, pointing out, if anyone has also planned to also invite Pakistan, so he could not say anything about it.

Looks like the jokes on them :) Be happy and stay happy.
